03-02-2012 > Permission for new stadium Olympique Lyonnais
Olympique Lyonnais have been granted planning permission to build a new stadium, which is to be called the Stade des Lumieres.
The current 40,000 capacity Stade de Gerland was built in 1914 and the club have been granted planning permission after six years of trying to move. "We're very emotional at having signed this act for Lyon's future," a statement on the club's official website read. "It's been six years of work, six years of instructions, public meetings and consultation. Today, we're very happy and satisfied to be granted permission to construct the Stade des Lumieres."

The new stadium is expected to be ready for use in 2014 and is set to be one of the venues used during Euro 2016, which France will host.
